NORC Library Online Web Catalog
The NORC Library is committed to gradually making publications resulting from NORC studies available to the public in pdf format. A number of these are presently accessible through the web catalog's search option. Concurrently, the web catalog is undergoing retrospective conversion and presently comprises approximately 80% of the Library's total holdings. The catalog reflects primarily those materials acquired from 1989 on.

The Library has a comprehensive collection of survey research methods materials, as well as a selection of monographs and periodical literature on various subjects, including education, health care administration, public health, demographics, and census and vital statistics. For more information on holdings, please contact the Library.

Mission
The NORC Library serves several purposes. It is first a resource for the NORC staff, preserving the record of project activities and materials, methodological experiments publications and correspondence, and providing access to a collection designed for staff needs. The library maintains a substantial collection of work on survey methods and materials relating to the study of population. The library serves as well as a resource for the larger community. Scholars and students from universities across the country and throughout the world come to NORC to conduct research, or contact the Sheatsley Library for assistance.
The Library has also served as a repository for materials related to NORC projects that have not been deposited in other archives, and for materials related to recent projects that are for one reason or another not available elsewhere.

Policies
The Sheatsley Library welcomes requests for information from the public, and seeks to make available whenever possible materials directly related to or resulting from studies conducted by the NORC.
For questions which result in making photocopies for a patron, the Library charges $10, plus the cost of the copying. The fee is exclusively for the service of providing a reproduction, and is established on the basis of no profit to the Library. The Library undertakes to uphold the Copyright Laws of 1976 without exception, and as outlined by the University of
Chicago Library Reserve photocopying guidelines. The Library will fill requests for single copies of one article or a small part of a copyrighted work with the understanding that the request fills the conditions of "fair use" specified in the law (Title 17, U. S. Code), and that the reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." The Library is obligated to refuse a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment would involve violation of copyright law. The Library regrets that it cannot fax research materials to the public, unless such faxing is prepaid.
Please use email, if possible, when seeking reference information from the Library.

Hours
Although the Library's collection circulates only to NORC and affiliated research center faculty and staff, the Library staff is available Monday through Friday between 8:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for information and assistance. Materials may also be consulted onsite during those hours. Patrons are encouraged to contact the Library for additional information.
