About NORC

The Youth Culture Survey

Working with Dr. Cathy J. Cohen from the University of Chicago, NORC conducted the Youth Culture Survey in 2005. Young people from all over the nation were contacted and asked to complete a telephone interview that covered political, cultural, and social ideas and experiences. The research was conducted to help understand and begin to represent the perspectives and opinions of young people in the United States. Often, a youth perspective is missing in public policy debates and decisions that have significant influences on young people’s lives. Further, the researchers want to understand the connection between younger people’s attitudes and their actions. The analysis is forthcoming. This important research effort was sponsored by the Ford Foundation, the University of Chicago, and NORC.
